`Madhavidaai’ (Menses) documentary film was released on Saturday the 8th December at Chennai. Ms. Chinapillai, `Sthree Sakthi’ purashkar awardee and President of Kalanjiyam Women Self Help Movement released the documentary and it was received by Mr Maalan, Writer. Mr.K.M.Ravindran IIS, Addl. Director General, Press Information Bureau, Southern Region, Min. of Information and Broadcasting, GOI, Chennai presided over the function. Ms Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP State Vice-President and Ms Thilagavathi IPS Director General of Police (Retd.) delivered key note address. Documentary was screened and discussion was held on it.
`Madhavidai’ [Menses] docu film speaks about misconceptions, superstitious beliefs and social stigma attached with menses. The film shows various practices in villages, experiences of women from different walks of life, religious views, lack of hygienic toilet facilities & mechanism for disposal of used napkin/cloth during menstruation and need for changes in policies on women health. In general, menses is seen only in the angle of `un-cleanliness’ and not viewed as an important metabolic process of body growth. The 38 mts. film urges the need to spread awareness among men regarding issues connected with menses. Men should also take due care and play a significant role in providing necessary infrastructural facilities.
The film is made by women for men.
